The Macmillan cancer charity means a lot to DCU members and this was evidenced by the huge level of support shown at the cake and candy event on Monday 21 September. Some of us arrived early to set up the display of the sweet treats, making sure prices were clearly displayed and containers available for items to be taken home.
The tables were overflowing with delicious, mouthwatering cakes that would not have been out of place at any of the Parisian patisseries on the Champs-Élysées. Our team of bakers and makers of sweet confections could surely give Paul Hollywood’s Bake Off contestants a run for their money!
The range of eye-catching produce was a sight to behold- from the traditional treats of tasty chocolate and caramel tray bakes, tablet, fruit loaves, and sponge cakes to the more exotic mini pavlova and tiramisu. What a delight for us Scots with a sweet tooth.
Contributors, being mindful of modern health trends, included gluten-free cakes as well as bakes with fresh fruit as a nod to our five-a-day.
By the start of rehearsal, when the piano warm up could be heard and Mandy was in position at the front, the stall tables were completely bare— not a crumb to be seen. A fun start to our practice and a great success for sure!
Huge thanks to everyone for their generous support of the event which raised £501.19 for the MacMillan Cancer charity.
