Come and Sing: A Family Affair
Our first Come and Sing event, held on Saturday 12 August 2023, was very much a family affair!
Over 100 singers came together on the day to rehearse and put on an informal concert for family and friends. The programme of music was varied and provided something for everyone. Personally, I found the Little Jazz Mass, by Bob Chilcott, challenging, but I particularly enjoyed the You’ll Never Walk Alone/Climb Every Mountain piece and, my personal favourite, Let the River Run. Our entrance to that piece of music and the ‘surround sound’ beginning to the concert was different and, I think, extremely effective!
However, one of the highlights of the event, I think, was the number of family groups who took part. We had Dougie Arneil and his two sisters, Judy and Morag. A family of singers, who, unbelievably have never sung in the same concert before in their long careers. There was also Dianne Slaven and her son Dominic and daughter Chantal; Dianne and Chantal even wore matching tops for the concert! In addition, Helen Wishart and her daughter; Catherine Poole and her sister; Kirsty Gorman, wife Isla Ferguson and Isla’s dad Kenny all took part.
If all that wasn’t enough, we were thrilled to be joined for the day by our new Patron Frances McCafferty.
I may have missed other family groups, apologies if I have, but thanks to everyone for coming along and making it a truly DCU Family event.
